Whirlpool Assuages Foreign Fears

In a message directed at Whirlpool’s factory communities in Ohio, the world’s largest appliance manufacturer by dollar volume assured workers and residents that it remains committed to domestic production and that a buyout by a foreign entity, like GE’s by Haier, just ain’t in the cards.

“After appliance company Haier Group announced that it was buying General Electrics’ Appliance Division for $5.4 billion, many are questioning if Whirlpool Corporation will be the Chinese company’s next target. Whirlpool, headquartered in Benton Harbor, Michigan, has been a stalwart in the Midwest for 104 years, including operating manufacturing plants in Clyde, Marion and Findlay that provide thousands of jobs to regional residents.”
