A Radically Different RadioShack Could Emerge From Bankruptcy

A pared-down, possibly online-only RadioShack may ultimately emerge from the retailer’s latest Chapter 11 reorganization, a far cry from the 7,000-plus locations that once put the chain within 15 minutes of most Americans. Instead, the flag will be carried by a loose pastiche of independent RadioShack dealers with custom assortments and store designs, while the corporate entity clings to a website, warehouses and a sprinkling of stores. However, it all hinges on a lawsuit against former partner Sprint, the proceeds of which would be used to pay back creditors.

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware gave conditional approval of RadioShack Corp.’s reorganization plan on Thursday, despite its recovery hinging on a lawsuit with Sprint Corp.
