Landlords Seeking Alternative Tenants Amid Retail Consolidation

In the wake of what USA Today describes as a “retail apocalypse” (we prefer the term retrenchment), commercial real estate brokers are looking to fill empty big-box storefronts with non-traditional tenants like e-tailers (for warehouses) and recreational and entertainment businesses (for indoor sports facilities).

“That HHGregg store near you might never be filled again — at least, not by a retailer. Indianapolis appliances and electronics seller HHGregg Inc. is in the process of closing all of its stores. While some of the openings are in prime locations that will attract interest, all of them face uncertain futures.”
