CTA cites the average 11.5-year age of cars and the need to update entertaiment systems with new technlogy to stream music from cellphones and access smartphone apps via an in-dash head unit.
“Against the odds, aftermarket in-dash CD player sales in the US (wholesale) grew by 7 percent in units and 2 percent in dollars last year, according to the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), formerly the Consumer Electronics Assoc. And total aftermarket audio/video/navigation sales to dealers excluding portable navigation devices grew slightly to $1.644 billion in 2015.”
