Lutron’s Caseta Wireless dimmers and switches are among the most flexible devices on this list. They are compatible with Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit, and can also interoperate with Sonos, Xfinity Home and Logitech Harmony. Homeowners can also create IFTTT recipes to lower the shades or lights. The devices can be used with over 500 different bulbs, according to the company. Prices start at $72.
iDevices’ first product launch since its acquisition by Hubbell earlier this year is a dimmer switch that’s compatible with HomeKit, Alexa and Google Assistant. The switch, currently available at a $99.95 suggested retail, features in-app dim range settings to prevent low-level bulb flicker, last-state brightness memory, and a built-in LED night light. It’s engineered to fit in any standard rocker faceplate and can be installed in single-pole and three- and four-way setups with no additional wiring. The company also offers a wall switch, wall outlet and thermostat that feature the same multi-platform compatibility.
One of the first smart lighting products to grab consumers’ attention, the Philips Hue line of bulbs and sensors can be used with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit and Samsung SmartThings. More than 700 third-party apps are available for use with the line, which launched in 2012.
The TP-Link HS-100 Smart Plug enables consumers to control their devices using their smartphone and the accompanying Kasa app. Compatible with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control, the device connects via Wi-Fi and eliminates the need for a separate hub. Consumers have the ability to remotely control devices and set schedules. Suggested retail is $30.
Not only does Belkin’s Wemo line of smart plugs and light switches work with Nest, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, but the company announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June that it plans to enable HomeKit compatibility via the Wemo Bridge. Users will be able to ask Siri to turn on Wemo or dim the lights, and will also be able to use Wemo products that work with over 100 other HomeKit-compatible devices. The Bridge connects to a Wi-Fi router via an Ethernet cable, sending HomeKit capabilities from an iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch to Wemo plugs and switches. It’s slated to hit retail floors this fall, although pricing wasn’t available at press time.
Honeywell announced in August that its line of Lyric and Total Connect Comfort smart thermostats now feature Google Home integration in addition to Alexa, HomeKit, SmartThings and IFTTT. Consumers can control the thermostat via voice control, or they can remotely control it through a smartphone or tablet. Features include the ability to adjust the temperature, set schedules and independently control multiple heating or cooling zones.
Ecobee’s Ecobee3 Lite Wi-Fi smart thermostat integrates with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings and IFTTT. The device, which features a touchscreen, is hardwired, eliminating reliance upon battery power. Consumers can also pair the device with additional sensors to measure the temperature and occupancy of a specific room and adjust accordingly. So, if the Ecobee3 senses that no one is home, for example, it will adjust the temperature to save energy. The thermostat is currently available at a $169 suggested retail.
Leviton’s Decora Smart Wi-Fi lighting products — which include in-wall dimmers, a switch, and plug-in modules for appliances and lamps — feature voice-control compatibility with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control. Consumers can also remotely control the devices via the My Leviton iOS and Android app, enabling them to schedule lights to turn on/off at specific times or at sunrise/sunset; easily group smart devices into rooms; and create scenes to activate multiple lights at once. Suggested retails range from $48 to $66.
Lifx’s smart color-changing lightbulbs are currently compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant and SmartThings, although a company spokesman told TWICE that HomeKit “is on the roadmap and currently our top priority.” The A19 and BR30 bulbs can emit 16 million colors and have lifespans of nearly 23 years, Lifx said, while using just a max output of 13 watts. Bulbs start at $60 each.
