XM, Starbucks To Release CDs

Washington, D.C. — XM Satellite Radio and Starbucks Hear Music today announced they will produce a series of CDs to be sold at Starbucks coffee shops and online.

The CDs feature both previously released and never-before-heard tracks from new and established artists. The first CD, called Hear Music XM Radio Sessions, Vol. 1, will feature recordings by Tracy Chapman, Jewel and Jason Mraz, as well as new WEA artists James Blunt and the John Butler Trio. It will be released on August 3 at $14.95.

Although it specializes in coffee, Starbucks is emerging as a powerful force in the music industry. According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, the company co-produced last year a CD of Ray Charles singing with other artists, such as Norah Jones, which sold nearly three million copies, about a quarter of those selling at Starbucks stores.

XM began airing a Starbucks Hear Music channel last October. Conversely, Starbucks plays the channel at its more than 4,600 locations, exposing listeners to XM.

The new Hear Music XM Radio Sessions, Vol. 1, track listing is as follows:

1.Give Me One Reason — Tracy Chapman
2.Baby Can I Hold You — Tracy Chapman
3.Stand By Me — Tracy Chapman
4.Intuition — Jewel
5.Louisa and Her Blue Guitar — Jewel
6.The Other Woman — Jewel
7.Unravel — Jason Mraz
8.The Boy’s Gone — Jason Mraz
9.Plain Jane — Jason Mraz
10.Peaches & Cream — John Butler Trio
11.Zebra — John Butler Trio
12.High — James Blunt
13.Wisemen — James Blunt
