XM, MySpace Launch Contest

Washington — XM Satellite Radio and MySpace today announced the launch of an online search contest for the “hottest unsigned hip-hop and R&B music artist.”

Musicians can submit their original song for an opportunity to perform at The Mix Show Power Summit, the industry’s premier event, in October.

The contest will include open voting by the public on the XM MySpace site at http://www.myspace.com/xm. A panel of judges will pick the top five contestants and the public will vote on the winner, who will receive an on-air XM appearance and a mix tape created with a popular DJ.

MySpace said there are more than 4 million registered urban musicians on its site.

XM said its service is about “discovery,” which includes introducing new artists.
