XM Buys Effanel For Live and Remote Broadcasts

Washington — XM Satellite Radio has acquired Effanel Music, the leading specialist in live music, remote and mobile recording.

XM said the purchase of Effanel will better enable XM to offer live digital broadcasts from “sports and entertainment events from anywhere in the world,” said XM’s president and CEO Hugh Panero. He said, “XM now has a built-in mobile recording and broadcast division.”

Effanel, founded in 1980, has delivered live recordings for major TV networks and record labels including large-scale multi-artist concerts and festivals, said XM. Effanel is responsible for live performances from the Grammys, MTV Video Music Awards, U2, Madonna, the Dave Matthews Band, Santana and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, said XM.

In 2004, Effanel worked with XM to provide live broadcasts of the three-day Phish Coventry Festival and the Vote for Change Finale Concert, featuring performances from Bruce Springsteen, the Dixie Chicks, Pearl Jam and REM.

In addition, to providing remote broadcasts and mobile recording for XM, Effanel will continue to service it’s established clients, said XM.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
