Redmond, Wash. — Sales of Nintendo’s new Wii U console surpassed 400,000 units in its week on the market, the company’s U.S. president Reggie Fils-Aime reportedly told CNET in an interview Monday.

At the same time, the company recorded 1.2 million hardware sales in the past seven days, including Black Friday.

The gaming company said it also sold approximately 300,000 Wii units, 250,000 Nintendo's 3DS units and 275,000 DS units.

The Wii U’s performance came in 200,000 units under the original Wii's launch week, which Fils-Aime attributed to Nintendo’s inability to supply demand.
