Web-Connected CE Shipments To Soar

El Segundo, Calif. –
Shipments of Internet-connected CE devices will surpass those of PCs by 2013,
according to HIS iSuppli.

The research firm’s study found that by 2013 the number of
Internet-connected CE devices will hit 503.6 million worldwide, up from 161
million in 2010. By comparison, PC shipments are expected to be 253.3 million
in two years, up from 222.3 million in 2010.

Connected CE device shipments will then quickly pull away from
PCs during the next two years. In 2015 this will reach 780.8 million units,
compared with 479.1 million PCs in 2011.

Going forward, tablet PC shipments will comprise the bulk of this
increase, the report stated. However, the top Internet-connected devices last
year were game consoles, with shipments of 50.5 million, and TVs, at 40
million. For 2011, IHS is projecting 61.9 million tablets will ship, up from
the 19.7 million that shipped in 2010. By 2015 this figure will hit 300
million.

The other categories expected to add some weight to the increase
are connected Blu-ray players and set-top boxes.
