Walmart Planning ‘Cyber Saturday’

San Bruno, Calif.Walmart said it will begin its Cyber Monday sales on the preceding Saturday, and has matched Amazon.com’s free-shipping minimum of $35 for online orders effective today.

The early online sale mirrors today’s pre-Black Friday sales event, in which the discounter matched the Black Friday pricing of Best Buy, Target and Toys“R”Us on a limited selection of CE and toys.

Walmart’s Cyber Monday sales event will kick off on Saturday, Nov. 30 and run through Friday, Dec. 6 with 200 daily online specials including $150 off a 32GB iPad bundle and $50 for a Nextbook 7-inch tablet.

Walmart will also alert mobile app, Facebook and email subscribers to an early sales event on Sunday, Dec. 1, for which it has tripled the number of early access items.

But the retailer said it is saving some of its deepest discounts for Cyber Monday proper (Dec. 2), including a 55-inch LG 3D-TV and soundbar for $799, a Samsung 46-inch LED TV for $479, and a 14-inch HP Pavilion Sleekbook laptop for $295.

It described the sale as its biggest Cyber Monday event to date.

“Last year, Cyber Monday was our best sales day in Walmart.com’s history and we’ve spent all year preparing to make it even better for customers,” said Joel Anderson, president/CEO, of Walmart.com U.S. “Every year there’s a bigger appetite for Cyber Monday,” with more than two-thirds of in-store Black Friday customers planning to also shop on Cyber Monday, according to a Walmart poll.

The minimum purchase to qualify for free shipping was dropped from $50, while Amazon earlier this season raised its free-shipping minimum to $35 from $25. Walmart said that 99 percent of its online assortment is eligible for the free shipping offer.
