Wal-Mart To Carry Boxee TV

New York — Boxee’s new $99 Boxee TV device will go on sale at more than 3,000 Wal-Mart Stores starting Thursday.

The web-connected Boxee TV device was designed to bring live television and online video together for home users.

Wal-Mart will carry the device exclusively during the holiday season, the companies said.

Wal-Mart plans to promote the unit both with in-store point of purchase materials in outside stores through circulars.

In addition to providing online entertainment streaming services such as YouTube, Netflix and Pandora, Boxee TV will help viewers cut their cable and satellite TV cords by providing local TV services.

The device has a built-in antenna to accesses over-the-air TV signals, and combines those channel selection with on-demand movie and TV program selections from web-based sources.

Boxee TV then offers a service called No Limits DVR, which lets customers record unlimited broadcast TV shows to the Cloud and access them through the set-top box or from a computer, smartphone or tablet.
