Vudu Service Comes To Sony’s PS3

Foster City, Calif. – Vudu’s
streaming HD movie services are headed to Sony’s PlayStation3 gaming console,
and will soon add a new 2.0 user interface to simplify the service’s
functionality on HD sets.

Sony and Vudu said
Wednesday the Vudu streaming service will be available on the Sony PS3 starting
Nov. 23, offering movies in up to 1080p HD and Dolby 5.1 surround sound via a
new application.

The game console joins other Vudu-enabled devices already in the
market, including various Blu-ray players, Vudu set-top boxes, the Boxee
platform (for PC and Mac) and the just-launched D-Link Boxee Box.

PlayStation3 will be the first and only dedicated gaming service
to offer Vudu content at the launch of the new application.

Meanwhile, the new Vudu 2.0 interface has been redesigned and
optimized for high-def wide-format TV screens.

It features a more intuitive structure organized around tabs that
speed up navigation, Vudu said.

Also added is a “social feed,” and enhanced browsing and filter
capabilities.

It will also support next-gen input devices including the PS3
Move controller, mice and pointer remote controls.
