Santa Clara, Calif. – Video download service Vudu reported Monday that it has signed on more than 1,000 professional home installation dealers in its national distribution network.
The news follows the recent launch of Vudu’s new HDX 1080p high-definition service that is said to offer twice the resolution of its previous HD offerings.
“HDX is clearly resonating with people who understand AV for the home inside and out. We are pleased that in just seven months of shipping VUDU XL, we have signed up over 1,000 home theater dealers,” stated Mark Jung, Vudu CEO. “Their commitment to Vudu means that consumers around the U.S. will be able to enjoy the highest quality 1080p on-demand movies on their home theater systems.”
Vudu said the custom installers signing on with the service are specially trained and licensed to sell the VUDU XL set-top box, featuring 1TB of hard drive capacity, extensive control integration with whole-home systems and extended networking functionality.
The unit also has the ability to output HD simultaneously over HDMI and component video for whole house video switching.
