Vudu Adds Pandora Internet Radio Service

Santa Clara, Calif. — Broadband video distributor Vudu said Monday that it has added its first audio-specific application — Pandora — to the selection of entertainment options available on its TV set-top boxes.

The free service will offer Vudu users high-quality personalized Internet radio. Pandora has been added to YouTube, Flickr, Picasa and a selection of more than 120 channels of Web-based video content available through Vudu set-top devices.

“As we continue to expand our [Rich Internet Application] platform, we look forward to bringing many more popular services like Pandora to the Vudu service,” Edward Lichty, Vudu strategy and content executive VP, said in a statement. “Our open development environment allows us to easily release new applications in partnership with some of today’s most popular services and content delivery platforms, increasing the value of the Vudu service platform for our users and partners.”

Using Vudu’s remote control, Vudu customers will be able to create personalized radio stations by “thumbing” songs up and down as they play. Additionally, Pandora on Vudu will support multiple accounts enabling multiple family members to play personalized Pandora stations.
