Warren, N.J. – Virgin Mobile has introduced
two new basic cellphones for its
prepaid service, which targets consumers who mainly want to talk and text.
One of the new
phones is the $14.99 clamshell-style Samsung Entro, which features 1.77-inch
main display, web access, external color display, text messaging and speakerphone.
It’s available at independent retailers and Virgin Mobile’s website, and it
will roll out later through various retailers’ websites and through sleet
brick-and-mortar stores, the company said. The outlets include VMU.com, Best
Buy.com, Amazon.com, LetsTalk.com Simplexity.com, Kmart, and Target.
On Aug. 20, Samsung’s
$49 Montage with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard will be available on the Virgin
Mobile website, followed later in the month by sales through national
retailers. The Montage features a 2-megapixel camera/camcorder, Bluetooth,
threaded text messaging, email, web access, MP3 and video player, voice mail
and caller ID. It supports MicroSD cards with up to 32GB of memory.
Other low-priced
handsets offered by PayLo include the Kyocera S2100 at $19.99, Kyocera S2300 at
$29.99, and Samsung M575.
PayLo-branded
handsets are available at more than 40,000 retail stores, including Best Buy,
RadioShack and Target. PayLo and Virgin Mobile Top-Up cards are available to
purchase monthly service and such items as ringtones and downloads through
about 150,000 locations nationwide.
Service plans include a $40/month unlimited talk
and text plan and 50MB of web access.
