Verizon Readies Broad 4G Expansion

Basking Ridge, N.J. – Verizon Wireless
plans to more than double the number of its 4G LTE markets to more than 400 by
the end of the year to reach more than 260 million people in the United States,
the carrier announced.

Verizon’s 3G network reaches more than
290 million Americans.

In mid-January, the carrier’s

LTE network

reached 195 markets with more than 200 million people, and with
a planned expansion on March 15 to seven new markets, the network coverage will
extend to 203 markets.

The seven new markets are Dothan and
Enterprise, Ala.; Naples, Fla.; Greenville, N.C.; Altus and Durant, Okla.; and
Longview/Marshall, Texas.

4G LTE users experience average data throughput
speeds of 5Mbps to 12Mbps on the downlink and 2Mbps to 5Mbps on the uplink, the
carrier said.
