Basking Ridge, N.J. – Verizon broke its single-day record for pre-orders when its version of the iPhone became available on Feb. 3.
In only the first two hours in which the
CDMA iPhone 4 was available for preordering by existing Verizon Wireless
subscribers, Verizon sold more iPhones than it had for any other phone on the first
full day of availability, the carrier announced.
The carrier also announced
that it stopped the preordering process as of 8:10 p.m. ET Thursday, less than
24 hours after the phone became available at 3:00 a.m. ET Thursday.
The carrier said it had always planned to offer the phone for
preordering to existing subscribers only for one day, a spokesperson said. And Apple
said at the time that preorders would be fulfilled on a “first come, first
served basis” because of expected high demand.
The CDMA iPhone becomes available to the general public beginning
7:00 a.m. local time on Feb. 10 in Apple’s retail stores, more than 2,000
Verizon Wireless Communication Stores nationwide, the Apple and Verizon
websites, select Walmart stores and Best Buy stores nationwide.
Beginning Feb. 9, consumers will be able to order the Verizon
iPhone through Apple’s online store (www.apple.com)
for delivery or for reserved in-store pick up beginning February 10.
“In just our first two hours, we had already sold more phones
than any first day launch in our history,” said president/CEO Dan Mead. “And
when you consider these initial orders were placed between the hours of 3:00
a.m. and 5:00 a.m., it is an incredible success story.”
