U.S. Satellite Homes Top 10M

The number of digital satellite receiver homes in the U.S. topped 10 million at the end of the third quarter, according to figures released last week by the two service providers showing that each added a record number of net new subscribers.

DirecTv reported the addition of 423,000 subs for the quarter, bringing its total count including those watching subsidiary Primestar to just under 7.7 million.

EchoStar attracted 375,000 new viewers to raise its household count to 2.98 million.

The combined household count of 10.7 million indicates that better than 10% of U.S. households are getting satellite-fed digital TV programming.
