U.S. Cellular Plans 4G LTE Launch

Chicago – U.S. Cellular announced plans to launch 4G LTE service in the 700MHz band in 24 markets to reach 25 percent of its potential customer base in time for the Christmas selling season.

To support the launch, the CDMA 1X EV-DO carrier said it plans a portfolio of LTE-equipped devices.

The initial rollout is planned for select cities in Iowa, Wisconsin, Maine, North Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma. The cities include Milwaukee, Madison and Racine, Wis.; Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Davenport, Iowa; Portland and Bangor, Maine; and Greenville, N.C.

Additional details weren’t announced.

The carrier would join CDMA carriers Verizon Wireless and MetroPCS in offering LTE service.
