Cypress, Calif. — Universal Electronics is developing remote controls for new Denon receivers and home entertainment systems, set to be available in the United States, Europe and Asia early this year.

According to Denon, the remotes will be capable of transferring metadata at a rate of 2.4GHz using the ZigBee two-way wireless communication standard. ZigBee is a wireless RF mesh network format that is used in a variety of devices. In this case, the technology will enable users to remotely view metadata information transmitted from Denon receivers, like song titles, artists and station information, on the device’s built-in monochrome LCD screen from anywhere in the home within range of the A/V receiver’s RF signal.

The remote will also integrate many of Universal’s patented features like built-in IR learning, user-defined activity and favorite channel macros, and a PC editor.

Other new features include the universal ability to control more than 40 unique types of CE devices and an ID search function for quick set-up of universal modes. Users will be able to edit LCD text on the device, and the product will offer a backlight behind its hard keys and customizable LCD display.

The remote will provide support for Japanese and European fonts and it can support multi-zone A/V access and control. Also, the ZigBee RF receiver will feature built-in IR blasting for non line-of-sight A/V control.

“This product marks the second collaboration between Denon and UEI in bringing new and exciting products to market. The technologies embodied in this advanced controller offer consumers a compelling feature benefit that make this solution stand out in the marketplace,” said Paul Arling, chairman/ CEO of Universal Electronics.

According to Denon, the complete product solution is being demonstrated at its private booth at the Diamond Meeting Room in the Aladdin Resort and Casino hotel during the International CES, being held in Las Vegas next week. Universal Electronics will be exhibiting on the show floor in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
