U2 iPod Ups Capacity

Cupertino, Calif. — Apple’s latest iPod U2 Special Edition increases storage capacity to 30GB from its predecessor’s 20GB and retails for a suggested $329.

It holds up to 7,500 songs, 25,000 photos or over 75 hours of video based on four minutes per song encoded in 128Kbps AAC, H.264 750Kbps video with 128Kbps audio, and iPod-viewable photos transferred from iTunes.

The U2 edition features all-black stainless steel enclosure, red Click Wheel and custom engraving of U2 band member signatures. U2 iPod customers also get 30 minutes of exclusive U2 video downloadable from the iTunes Music Store.

The device is available through Apple and authorized resellers.

In another announcement, Apple teamed with Nike to offer a $29 sport kit that relays information wirelessly on running time, distance, pace and calories burned from a sensor implanted in select Nike footwear to an iPod nano, which will reproduce the information via voice through the nano’s headphones. It will be the first product in the two companies’ collaboration when it is available in the summer.
