Tweeter Trims Merchant Reporting Lines

The reorganization at Tweeter Home Entertainment Group earlier this month included a realignment of the A/V chain’s merchandising team.

Under the new structure, three VPs report directly to chief merchant Philo Pappas, who continues as senior VP and chief merchandising officer.

In addition, 27-year Tweeter veteran Bob Staples was promoted from home installation VP to sales and installation services senior VP, succeeding Judy Quye who resigned in November.

Pappas and Staples serve on Tweeter’s executive team and report directly to president/CEO Joe McGuire, who had assumed Quye’s responsibilities on an interim basis.

Pappas’ three VP reports include:

  • Dave Malin, VP/general merchandising manager, with responsibility for home and car;
  • Frank Roshinski, VP/video merchandising manager, with responsibility for video, content and furniture, and;
  • Steve Samson, VP/systems design and engineering, responsible for custom home controls and automation.

Tweeter eliminated about 70 of its 360 headquarters positions in the Jan. 4 restructuring — some 20 percent of its corporate and administrative staff.

McGuire told TWICE that the restructuring was painful but necessary, and has resulted in a more efficient organization. Impacted positions ranged from coordinators to VPs. Tweeter anticipates $6 million in annual savings.
