Sharp Drops UHD TV Opening Price To $799

Mahwah, N.J. — Sharp’s first two UHD LED TVs at less than $1,000 are among the four UHD TVs that the company has begun to ship in its new UB30 series of Aquos TVs.

The two TVs at less than $1,000 are the $799-suggested 43-inch LC-43UB30U and $99 50-inch LC-50UB30U. The other two TVs in the series are the $1,299 55-inch LC-55UB30U and the $2,399 65-inch LC-65UB30U, which ships in June.

All are smart TVs that support 4K UHD streaming services and feature Wi-Fi, quad-core processors, Revelation up-scaler to display all content in near-4K quality, four HDMI inputs, HDCP 2.2 copy protection, two USB inputs and narrow bezels. The TVs feature the 4K HEVC/H.265 codec and VP9, a new codec that lets 4K content play back in native form, the company said.

The three models priced up to $1,299 feature AquoMotion technology with 120Hz refresh rates to deliver smooth motion and reduced blur during fast motion scenes, Sharp said. The top model steps up to AquoMotion 240Hz and LED local dimming, which delivers deeper blacks and higher contrast.

All models come with SmartCentral UI to bring all content together in one interface for easier searching of content, including cable, satellite and streaming-service content. The interface also lets users get recommendations based on preferences.

All also come with an IR blaster dongle to control a cable box and the TV from the included remote.
