Irvine, Calif. — Toshiba Storage Device Division announced a new, higher capacity 80 GB hard disc drive (HDD) for use in OEM and aftermarket in-dash navigation and car entertainment systems.
Toshiba’s previous automotive grade HDD drive had a capacity of 40GB.
The company also ruggedized the new HDD drive for an altitude specification now up to 5,500 meters. The drive will also be available in a 40GB version and it is expected to appear in OEM navigation/entertainment devices for the 2010 car model year.
