Concord, Mass. — TomTom announced a map-update service offering customers a year of quarterly updates for $39.80 or single map updates of $9.95 each.
TomTom said 15 percent of road attributes change each year.
The updates may be downloaded from the TomTom Web site, and users receive alerts when new maps are available.
Garmin and Navigon also offer map-update programs. Garmin has a NuMaps Lifetime retail plan with updates for the life of the product at $119. It offers one-time map updates at $69.99.
Navigon’s FreshMaps service lets users download up to 12 map and point-of-interest (POI) updates over three years for a one-time fee of $79.99.
