TomTom Intros CD-Less Radio/Nav in Europe

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – GPS maker TomTom is entering the mainstream car stereo aftermarket in
Europe with an in-dash A/V-navigation unit, but is not yet stating whether the
unit will come to the U.S.

The company’s new I-90 is a “mechless” double-DIN A/V
system (without a CD mechanism) with a removable navigation portion that can
double as a portable GPS or that may be used in another car. It has an AM/FM
radio, USB and iPod connections, and RDS readouts.

The device will be available through European 12V
specialists in December at 599 euros ($897).

The portable GPS section allows hands-free calling,
traffic capability, pronunciation of street names and map-share technology for
sharing map updates with other users.
