TiVo, DirecTV Extend Deal

New York — TiVo and DirecTV said they would extend for three years an agreement providing service and support to subscribers of DirecTV/TiVo equipment.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

DirecTV announced last August that it would no longer market TiVo’s digital video recorders in favor of marketing DVRs based on a system made by News Corp.-controlled NDS Group.

The new agreement does not mean that DirecTV will resume marketing DirecTV/TiVo equipment. It merely enabled subscribers with combined DirecTV/TiVo IRD/DVRs to continue using those devices and receiving service and support to keep that equipment operational.

Under the arrangement, TiVo will provide maintenance and support for the DVR service. A prior agreement between the companies was set to expire in 2007.

Also under the agreement the two parties said they would not assert patent rights against each other.
