TI Unveils DLP Pico Chipset With TRP Technology

Berlin, Germany – Texas Instruments (TI) DLP used IFA 2013 here Thursday to unveil a new DLP Pico chipset incorporating Tilt & Roll Pixel (TRP) architecture.

The TI TRP technology, which was first revealed at International CES 2013, was joined by the adaptive IntelliBright suite of algorithms demonstrated at Mobile World Congress.

The company said the newly announced chipset “packages TRP and IntelliBright in a way that allows smartphone, tablet, digital camera and wearable device OEMs to officially design and build products that benefit from higher brightness and resolution.”

The .2-inch TRP chip produces up to 100 percent higher frame-by-frame brightness to projected displays, while consuming up to 50 percent less power, the company said.

 Each DLP Tilt & Roll Pixel is 1/20th the width of a human hair.

 TI said the innovations in the new Pico chipset “are promising next steps in the evolution of DLP technology, an evolution that is consistently applied across all varieties of DLP chips and the range of products that integrate them.”

TI boasts that as its DLP technology evolves, it remains flexible enough to be incorporated into the latest trending form factors, including near-eye displays and other wearables.

As with many wearable devices, the design of near-eye displays presents a unique design challenge, requiring a critical balance of both style and performance. DLP Pico is said to excel in such applications.
