Los Angeles – Consumers who subscribe to cable-TV service will
get a simplified home theater experience if cable operators adopt THX Media
Director technology unveiled here by
at
The Cable Show 2010.
The technology delivers metadata over a cable network to a cable
settop box, enabling compatible TVs and home audio systems to automatically
select the correct aspect ratio, color space, surround-sound modes, and other
settings designed to ensure that the filmmaker’s artistic intent comes through
a home theater system. It would also automatically switch between 2D and 3D
playback, the company said.
The technology can be added to the installed base of set-top
boxes (STB) via a firmware update, THX added.
