Thales Debuts Three Magellan GPS Units

Santa Clara, Calif — Thales Navigation is introducing three new Magellan RoadMate portable GPS devices with real-time traffic capability from a traffic service to be announced next week, Thales reported today.

The 6000T is the new top-line model and the first Magellan GPS to also offer hands-free calling with Bluetooth-enabled cellphones. It can simultaneously provide turn-by-turn directions while playing MP3 and WMA music files from an SD or MMC card. The unit also has text-to-speech verbal announcements of road names for upcoming turns.

The new Magellan offering, including the 3000T and 3050T, feature a new, easier user interface, said Thales. They offer 3.5-inch, color touch screens and preloaded maps. All have a photo viewer, integrated battery for portability and a music player.

The RoadMate 3000T will be available in April at $599 with a traffic service accessory to follow in June at $149, including 15 months of service. The 3050T will be available in June at $649 and includes the traffic module plus three months of service. The 6000T will ship in July with integrated traffic receiver and three months of service at a price to be announced, said Thales.
