Targets Adds e-Newsstand

Minneapolis
– Target is launching a digital magazine stand in partnership with Zinnio at www.target.zinio.com.

Target said the digital newsstand will complement the e-readers
sold on target.com, which presently
include Sony Readers.

“We are excited to partner with Zinio to offer our guests
the unique ability to access digital publications,” said Steve Eastman,
president of Target.com, which will direct its visitors to the new Web site.

Target said it will also market and promote the digital newsstand
online and in stores nationwide. Popular titles on the site include Elle,
Parenting Early Years, Parenting School Years, Popular Science and Woman’s Day.

“Interest in buying and reading publications digitally is
exploding,” said Rich Maggiotto, president and CEO of Zinio.

The announcement follows a report
that Barnes & Noble
will sell its own e-reader device as early as next
month, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The Barnes & Noble device will reportedly use a 6-inch touch
screen and will permit wireless downloads of books.

Analysts expect e-readers to be a hot item this Christmas, and
Forrester Research recently upped its forecast for U.S. e-readers to 3
million units
for 2009, up from 2 million predicted earlier, with 900,000
units expected to sell during the holiday season.
