Target Adds Eye-Fi Cards

Mountain View,
Calif. –

Eye-Fi

,  maker of wireless memory cards for digital
cameras, said Wednesday that its Connect X2 ($49.99 street price) will be
available for purchase at 1,740 Target stores in 49 states and at Target.com.

The Eye-Fi technology
simplifies backing up and sharing photos and videos by using a Wi-Fi
transmitter built into SDHC sized memory cards to transfer digital files from
cameras and camcorders without wires.

The Eye-Fi cards
will be sold at the mass merchant in time for the back-to-school shopping
season.

“Target’s
commitment to providing a fun and convenient shopping experience with unique
and highly differentiated products at affordable prices makes it a necessary stop
on many family’s back-to-school shopping trips. Having Eye-Fi available there
gives families the ability to more easily share photos and videos with friends
and family,” said Jef Holove, Eye-Fi CEO. “Capturing that first day of school
is always memorable, kindergarten through college, and the Connect X2 makes
backing up and sharing photos so effortless, busy families will be able to send
pictures soon after taking them.”

The Connect X2
works like a regular SDHC memory card and is compatible with everyday compact
cameras, Eye.Fi said. Users will automatically be able to upload photos and
videos to their computer and such websites as Flickr, Facebook, Picasa and
others.

The Eye-Fi cards
hold 4GB of capacity to store up to 2,000 photos or 90mn of video with Class 6
read and write speeds.

The cards will
also provide the following benefits:

  • wireless uploading of JPEG photos and
    videos at 802.11n Wi-Fi speed;

  • endless memory by freeing up space on
    the card after pictures are safely delivered;

  • automatic backup to chosen folders on a
    computer, or  directly into iPhoto for
    Macs;

  • easy organization by automatically sending
    images and videos to date-based folders; and

  • the ability to select pictures prior to
    transfer.
