Tamron Reveals 24-70mm F/2.8 VC Lens

Commack, N.Y. –

Tamron

introduced Friday the SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD, full-size high-speed standard
zoom lens that includes vibration stabilization and an Ultrasonic Silent Drive.

First shipments, slated for April 26, will feature Canon mounts. A
Nikon version will follow shortly thereafter, the company said.

Tamron called the SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD (Model A007) “the
first full-size high-speed standard zoom lens equipped with Vibration
Compensation (VC) image stabilization and Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD).”

The lens uses specialized high-grade glass in the three LD
elements, three glass-molded aspherical lenses, one hybrid aspherical lens and
two XR (extra refractive index) glasses.

Vibration Compensation is Tamron’s proprietary three-coil image
stabilization system that uses three driving coils to activate the
shake-compensating VC lens group electromagnetically via three steel balls,
Tamron said.

The VC lens elements are held in place only by contact with the
steel balls, achieving smooth movement with little friction. This provides a
stable viewfinder image with excellent tracking performance, the company claims.
