T-Mobile Readies LTE Launch

Bellevue, Wash. – T-Mobile is gearing up for an imminent 4G LTE launch with the rollout today of an over-the-air LTE upgrade for Samsung’s Galaxy Note II phablet.

The Note II becomes the first device capable of operating in LTE mode over T-Mobile’s network when the carrier launches LTE service at the end of the month in an undisclosed number of markets.

T-Mobile’s only other LTE-capable device is the Nokia Lumia 810, but the carrier hasn’t announced when an LTE update will be available for that model.

The carrier said LTE would be turned on “in time for the launch of the new Blackberry Z10 by the end of this month.” The carrier also said it is “on track to have 100 million Americans covered by LTE mid-year and 200 million people with LTE by the end of 2013.” The carrier also claims a “blazing fast 4G experience” over its HSPA+ 21 and HSPA+42 networks reaching 220 million people.

T-Mobile is launching LTE in its AWS (1.7/2.1GHz) spectrum and shifting HSPA+ coverage to its 1.9GHz band from its AWS band.
