Stewart Offering New 5D Screen Material

Torrance, Calif. – Stewart
Filmscreen today announced its new Silver 5D (3D + 2D) screen fabric that
enhances projected 3D content while maintaining the integrity of content
projected in 2D.

The new fabric is said to improve
passive 3D polarization.

Stewart said the 5D fabric
preserves the performance of Stewart’s leading Silver 3D fabric while improving
uniformity and reducing hot spotting. The material offers a significantly wider
viewing cone than previously available, the company said.

Available in seamless sizes up to
40 feet by 90 feet, Stewart plans to roll out the new hybrid fabric over the
next quarter, with fixed frame units available in the fourth quarter, with
microperforated Silver 5D products planned for the first quarter of 2011.

Stewart said the improved polarization reduces
artifacts, which allows a single screen material to function more adequately
with non-polarized 2D projected source material.

The Silver 5D material has been designed to be compatible with Stewart’s
CineCurve and Directors Choice masking systems and all other premium Stewart
fixed mounting systems.

Suggested retail of a typical
application of the Silver 5D that includes a 10-foot-wide 2.4:1 CineCurve with
two-way AcoustiMask system with microperfing will be $19,799.
