In-Stat: Portables Will Grow through 2011

Waltham, Mass.–Growth of portable consumer electronics devices will continue through 2011 due to expanding features such as connection to the Internet, said a recent study by In-Stat.

Portable digital radio receivers, edutainment toys and personal navigation devices (PNDs) are some of the growth areas expected in the next four years.

But growth in some categories will be cut short as mobile phones overtake sales, particularly in the PND and PMP markets, In-Stat said.

The study found that worldwide shipments of digital radio receivers (HD Radio and satellite radio combined) will reach 32.2 million units by 2011, up from 17.3 million in 2007.  Worldwide edutainment toy shipments will hit 114.4 million by 2011, up from 31.2 million in 2007. PMP global sales will reach 275 million units by 2011, up from 220 million in 2007 said In-Stat.
