Starz, Sony Ink Distribution Deal

Englewood, Colo. – Starz Entertainment has reached an exclusive agreement with Sony Pictures Television for the multiple-platform distribution rights to more than 500 movie titles from the Sony library.

The agreement gives Starz Entertainment the ability to offer the titles on its 16 linear cable TV channels, subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) offerings and its broadband video download service, Vongo.

The library deal, which runs from 2008 to 2014, will give Starz exclusive access to a broader selection of Sony titles for its Starz and Encore cable channels. The VOD portion of the deal begins in October 2006 for Vongo.

The Sony library content will join Vongo’s subscription movie selection available for unlimited broadband downloads. The deal enables Vongo to offer many of Sony’s big Hollywood hits and other great films for pay-per-view (PPV) rental. Hit movies included in the deal include: “The Da Vinci Code,” and “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” which will be offered to all Vongo customers through the traditional PPV window.

Also in the deal, Starz Entertainment will have access such hits as both “Spider-Man,” “Men in Black” and “Bad Boy” movies as well as “Gandhi,” “As Good as It Gets,” “Jerry Maguire” and “Philadelphia.”

Other titles include “The Big Chill,” “Groundhog Day” “Sleepless in Seattle” and “Taxi Driver,” Western classics “Major Dundee” and “The Professionals” and animated film “Stuart Little”.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
