Sprint Updates Transform Smartphone

Overland Park, Kan. – Sprint replaced
its year-old Samsung Transform 3G Android slider with the Samsung Transform
Ultra, which steps up processing power to 1GHz from 800MHz and adds Android 2.3
OS.

The predecessor device was launched last
year at this time with Android 2.1 and the promise of an upgrade to 2.2.

The $79.99 Transform Ultra device became
available at RadioShack on Oct. 23 and will be available in all Sprint
direct-sales channels beginning Nov. 13.

The original Transform Ultra was
launched last year at this time at $149 and now retails for $49.99.

Other enhancements in the new model
include seven hours of continuous talk time vs. the predecessor’s six hours,
and the new model features 512MB RAM compared with the predecessor’s 256MB RAM.
Both models, however, come with a 2GB MicroSD card.

Like the original, the new model
features a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, slide-from-the-side QWERTY keyboard,
3-megapixel rear camera, VGA front camera, MicroSD card slot supporting 32GB
cards, stereo Bluetooth and Sprint ID, which lets users download packages of
wallpapers, ringers, apps and widgets built around a specific theme.
