Sprint Launches New Tablet Data Plans

Overland Park, Kan. – Sprint hopes to stimulate holiday sales of tablets, including the iPad Mini and fourth-generation iPad, with the launch of new no-contract plans designed specifically for 4G LTE tablets.

Beginning Nov. 11, the carrier will launch two new limited-time “special offer” rates for consumers who have a Sprint smartphone with a qualifying smartphone data plan. The special-offer plans charge $10/month for 100MB and $15/month for 1GB. The latter is priced lower than the company’s current 1GB plan, which costs $19.99.

To its regular tablet plans, the carrier will add a new entry-level plan with 100MB of service at $10/month, replacing the current opening-price plan of 1GB at $19.99/month. The other three plans will remain the same at $34.99 for 3GB, $49.99 for 6GB, and $79.99 for 12GB.

For a limited time, Sprint will also waive tablet activation fees.

Sprint contends its tablet plans offer up to 20 percent more data than similar Verizon and AT&T plans. The carrier said its $14.99, $49.99 and $79.99 plans offer 20 percent more data than same-price Verizon and AT&T tablet plans.
