Spring Break Car Electronics Expo Changes ’14 Date

Daytona Beach, Fla. — Next year’s Spring Break Nationals Mobile Electronics Expo will return to its traditional late-March time frame during the peak of Spring Break activities.

In addtion, the 28th annual event will separate loud displays from sound-quality-focused displays at the request of exhibitors, said SBN founder Paul Papadeas.

The consumer and trade show will run March 22 and 23 at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center. The 2013 event was held earlier in March and fell between the Daytona 500 Race and Bike Week.

For the 2014 event, the west end of the Ocean Center will become the SPL zone, where Papadeas said “all things loud” will be located, including all SPL contests, bass boxing and loud demos. The east end will be the SQ [sound quality] zone, where all manufacturer and dealer exhibits will hold the noise level to less than 95dB so audiophile products from such companies as Hybrid Audio Technologies, Arc Audio, Focal and Elettromedia can demonstrate their products, Papadeas said. Meeting rooms off the show floor will still be available to exhibitors at no additional charge to meet with clients.

The change was made because exhibitors had said exhibit-floor noise levels at previous events were too loud to speak with clients and “made it next to impossible to demonstrate their sound systems properly to consumers and trade attendees,” Papadeas said.

Because of the complaints, Papadeas said he considered moving the event to a larger venue outside of Daytona Beach, but exhibitors and attendees requested the event stay in the city, he said.
