Origin Acoustics Readies In-Room Subwoofers

Riverside, Calif. — Origin Acoustics, which unveiled its first products at the 2014 CEDIA Expo, is rolling out its first in-room subwoofers to complement its in-wall and in-ceiling speakers.

Origin was founded by industry veterans Jeremy Burkhardt, Ed Hasse and Ken Humphreys, all formerly with SpeakerCraft. Burkhardt was SpeakerCraft’s CEO.

The company plans mid-April shipments of three Bassic subs in 8-, 10- and 12-inch sizes with 100-, 150- and 250-watt output at suggested retails from $600 to $1,200. All feature Class D amplification and high- and low-level inputs. Controls for level, phase and crossover adjustments are mounted in front behind the grille for easy access even if the sub is placed in a cabinet. They come with piano-gloss black finish, inset grille, front ports and magnetic grilles.

Origins CEO Burkhardt claimed the subs “bring critical listening back to the front of the conversation.” Installers, he said, “must stop selling low-price-point solutions and focus on sound quality.”

The company markets in-wall and in-ceiling speakers for multiroom and home-theater use, outdoor speakers, and multizone amps and speaker selectors. It began shipping more than 50 products at the end of last year.
