Sound Storm Adds 4 In-Dash Multimedia Head Units

Oxnard, Calif. – Sound Storm Laboratories has begun shipping four in-dash multimedia head units, all with 7-inch wide-screen touchscreens.

Two models feature motorized screen that flips out of a single-DIN chassis. The other two are double-DIN models.

 The single-DIN SD722MBI and SD720MI feature TFT display, 960×240-pixel resolution, iPod/iPhone control via USB, mini and full USB ports, front SD/MMC card slot, front aux input, RCA video input and output, rear-camera input, steering-wheel control interface, and full detachable face. Output power is rated at 4×85 watts. The former adds Bluetooth hands-free.

 The double-DIN models are the DD882BI and DD880I with 7-inch widescreen TFT touchscreen, 1440×234 resolution, iPod/iPhone control, front- and rear full-size USB ports, SD/MMC card ports, subwoofer output, and front-panel audio/video input. Output power is 4×85 watts. The former adds Bluetooth hands-free.

 Prices on the products weren’t announced, nor do they appear on the company’s web site. But on Amazon, the single-DIN SD722MBI and SD720MI sell for $193.68 and $176.13, respectively. The double-DIN DD882BI and DD880I sell for $191.19 and $187.38, respectively.

Sound Storm, Planet Audio, and Boss Audio are the brands offered by parent Boss International Group, founded 25 years ago and headquartered here. All three brands offer head units, amps and speakers. Its factories are in California, Taiwan, and Korea.

Boss is among the top five suppliers of in-dash multimedia head units in the U.S. based on unit and dollar share, the company said in citing NPD statistics.
