Sony Unveils Portable AIO, Hybrid Tablet

New York – Sony has rolled out the Vaio Duo 11 hybrid Ultrabook/tablet along with a new battery-powered all-in-one (AIO) PC.

The Duo 11 and Tap 20 AIO were part of a fall computer line revamp centered on Microsfoft’s Windows 8 launch. Each features nearfield communications (NFC) capability, allowing such devices to automatically sync with the devices.

The Tap 20 is part of a new category that combines AIO size and functionality with a tablets mobility and interface, while the Duo 11 uses a slider mechanism to allow the user to switch between conventional laptop mode and a tablet configuration.

The $879 Tap 20 has a 20-inch display and can be used either as a regular AIO with keyboard, laid flat against a table or the user can disconnect it from the outlet and carry it around their home. The attachable battery provides about four hours of power.

It has a 10-point touch display that is driven by a mobile Bravia Engine 2, and is powered by a low-voltage Intel Core i5 processor. Specs include 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 750GB hard drive, included ArtRage Studio software, and a weight of just more than 11 pounds. It will ship at the end of October when Windows 8 is released.

The 11.6-inch Duo 11 is also a mutli-use device, with the display capable of sliding over the keyboard so it can be used as a tablet.

The Windows 8 unit has Core i5 processor, 128GB solid-state drive and 6GB of memory. It is 0.71 inches thick and weighs in at 2.84 pounds. The price tag will be $1,099 when it ships at the end of this month.

Sony did not stop with these two introductions and also rolled out new models in its E, T and S notebook lines, along with a new L-series AIO.

The T-series Ultrabook line will add a touch display on the T13 model, while the T14 includes an optical drive with a Blu-ray option. Pricing for the T13 and T14 start at $669.

The E series is Sony’s affordable line, with prices ranging from $449 to $729 for its five SKUs. Display sizes are 11, 14, 15 and 17 inches. The line is powered by an Intel quad-core processor and comes with AMD Radeon graphics. A variety of memory and storage options are available.

The three models in the S series — the S13, S13 Premium and S15 — are priced between $799 and $1,199. These are available in a variety of colors, including black, silver, pink, burgundy red, silver, gold and gun metallic.
