Santa Clara, Calif. – Macrovision Solutions said Monday that Sony has signed a multi-year licensing deal to use Macrovision’s interactive program guide (IPG) technology under the Gemstar patent portfolio on various Sony products.
The patent agreement will enable Sony to continue offering on-screen program guides on home entertainment equipment, such as televisions and recorders.
Macrovision’s IPG technology encompasses systems that manage personal profiles and deliver recommendations based on both editorial reviews and user preferences.
“It’s an exciting time for the entertainment and consumer electronics industry. Technology advances are now coming to fruition in the living room and will change the way that people view their TV sets and other consumer electronic devices. We are pleased to be working with Sony to enhance the consumer’s entertainment experience,” stated Simon Adams, Macrovision sales and marketing senior VP.
