San Diego –
said Tuesday
that it will allow third parties access to specifications for the E-mount lens
system employed by its NEX series of mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras.
The move, which will not ask any fee for privilege, will enable
third parties to offer lenses for the cameras, giving purchasers a wider
selection of optics and lens price points to outfit their cameras.
The move should open the doors to third-party equipment makers
such as Sigma, Tamron, Zeiss and others to soon deliver E-mount glass for the
NEX-3, NEX-5 and NEX-10 cameras and any other E-Mount cameras coming in the
future. No specific brands or models have been announced to date, however.
