Sony Files Suit Against Kodak

Tokyo — Just weeks after being sued by Kodak, Sony has countered by filing its own patent infringement suit against Kodak.

Sony’s suit concerns 10 patents related to electronic shutters for CCD image sensors. According to published reports, Sony is seeking unspecified damages and a halt to the alleged infringement.

The company said its suit against Kodak was not in retaliation to the Kodak suit which also involved 10 patents, covering storage and the reproduction of digital and video images.

Prior to Kodak’s lawsuit, the two imaging giants had been trying to negotiate a licensing arrangement over the Kodak patents for the past three years. Kodak said it filed suit only after it became clear the talks were failing to accomplish anything.
