San Diego — Sony ratcheted up the megapixel wars today with the introduction of a 13-megapixel digital camera housed in Titanium.
The new DSC W300 ships in May for $350.
According to Sony, a Titanium body is more durable than the aluminum housing found on most digital cameras.
The W300 incorporates a new burst mode capable of recording 3-megapixel images at 5fps. A new extra high sensitivity mode boosts the camera’s ISO to 6,400 when recording 3-megapixel stills. Also new for the W300 is the ability to adjust the intensity of the noise reduction feature.
The camera will incorporate many new technologies that Sony debuted in its T300 Cyber-shot at PMA, including child/adult priority smile shutter and intelligent scene recognition. It will also be able to organize images in-camera by date and face or make slideshows with music.
Additional features include a 3x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization, a 2.7- inch LCD screen and 15MB of internal memory.
The company also introduced a new model in its H-series of ultra-zoom cameras. The 9-megapixel DSC-H50 features a 15x optical zoom lens with optical stabilization and a tilting and scratch resistant 3-inch LCD display,
According to Sony, the advanced sports mode on the camera has been tweaked to reach higher shutter speeds more frequently. Like the W300, the H50 offers child/adult priority smile shutter, intelligent scene recognition and user-selectable noise reduction. It also offers manual controls, exposure bracketing with new settings for white balance and color modes, and a new D-Range Optimizer plus mode for improving an image’s dynamic range.
It will ship in May for $400.
