San Diego — Sony introduced its Extra Bass headphones this week and four models make up the line: three over-ear and one in-ear, all currently available.
Andrew Sivori, VP of the personal audio division at Sony Electronics, said in a statement that the headphones deliver a low frequency response to enhance “the signature of today’s music styles.” They also feature the company’s Advanced Direct Vibe Structure.
The over-ear MDR-XB800 and MDR-XB600 models feature pressure-relieving ear cushions with an “acoustical seal,” and all three models have cords with grooved serrations, said to reduce friction and tangles.
The MDR-XB800 ($149 suggested retail) has 50mm drivers, frequency response of 3Hz to 28kHz, impedance of 24 ohms at 1kHz, and max power of 3,000mW.
The MDR-XB600 ($99.99) has 40mm drivers, frequency response of 4Hz to 24kHz, impedance of 40 ohms at 1kHz, and max power of 1,000mW.
The MDR-XB400 ($59.99) has 30mm drivers, frequency response of 5Hz to 22kHz, impedance of 24 ohms at 1kHz, and max power of 1,000mW.
The in-ear model, MDR-XB60EX ($99.99), has 13.5mm drivers, frequency response of 4Hz to 25kHz, impedance of 16 ohms at 1kHz, and max power of 100mW. It comes with hybrid silicone rubber ear buds in four sizes, noise-isolating ear buds in three sizes, and a carry pouch.
Sony recently announced it was partnering with acerbic celebrity Simon Cowell for the X headphones.
