San Diego — Sony entered the celebrity-branded headphones market today with the launch of the $299 X headphones, done in partnership with Simon Cowell and Syco Entertainment.
Syco is a joint venture between Cowell and Sony Music Entertainment.
Details of the X headphones, which will be prominently featured on Cowell’s “The X Factor” show, include 50mm drivers, memory-foam ear pads, aluminum headband and details, friction-free detachable cable, Apple-compatible in-line mic and controls, and a foldable design with swiveling ear cups. They come with black or red accents.
Frequency range is listed at 3Hz to 29kHz, with impedance of 24 ohms at 1kHz, sensitivity of 106 dB/mW, and power capacity of 3,000mW.
The X headphones are currently available on Sony Stores’ website. They will be in Sony Stores retail stores beginning Sept. 15, and at other retailers by the end of the month, according to the company.
